Enjoyable beginning, but it collapses into Dead Serious High Fantasy Stuff at the end, with a consequent decrease of liveliness and immediacy. And I usually love Dead Serious High Fantasy Stuff. It just doesn't feel well-integrated here.I would love a book where the profligate promiscuous wastrel with unexpected talents is a woman.
